Here is the whole lyrics of the Song.(from SHREK)
We have a dialogue-script, which means we don’t have much difficulties in understanding the dialogue. In worst case, we can still imagine what’s going on from the context.
But, when it comes to the song, it is totally different situation.

I feel much brightness and optimism in the song. I think the message is "Don’t just stay in your room, go out and do something you want to do." Am I right?
But I don’t exactly understand what the each phrase means, especially the bold sentences.

I (and my friends) need your help.

Thank you in advance.

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me
I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed
She was lookin’ kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead

The years start comin’ and they don’t stop comin’
Fed to the rules and hit the ground runnin’
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do so much to see
So what’s wrong with takin’ the backstreets
You’ll never know if you don’t go
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow

Hey, now You’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey, now You’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shootin’ stars break the mold

It’s a cool place and they say it gets colder
You’re bundled up now but wait till you get older
But the meteor(media?) men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is gettin’ pretty thin
The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim
My world’s on fire
How ‘bout yours
That’s the way I like it and I’ll never get bored

Hey, now, you’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey, now You’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shootin’ stars break the mold

The years start comin’ and they don’t stop comin’
...
The ice we skate is gettin’ pretty thin

If I’m reading your selections correctly…
1. Times goes fast; you;re only young once, so make the most of it.
2. Thin ice: this looks safe but isn’t; your good luck or chances are running out.

Thank you gailr. That helps me a lot.  :D

I think I have to be more specific.

Actually, I tried but failed to highlight the sentences with tags.

I drag a sentence and pushed the bold button in the Add tags line. But the sentence just disappeared and some character like appeared.

Anyway, I am curious about the sentence
"She was lookin’ kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead "
I have no idea of what she’s doing. And who is she? Is she the princess?  ::)

Second, I am not sure about the sentence "Fed to the rules and hit the ground runnin’ "
I found the phrase "hit the ground running" means "to start doing something successfully without any delay" but have no idea what the "Fed to the rules" is.

But we haven’t seen the worst part yet. The most complexing part of this song is the latter half.

It’s a cool place and they say it gets colder
You’re bundled up now but wait till you get older
But the meteor(media?) men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is gettin’ pretty thin
The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim  :’(

I’ll take another stab at this for you. Deciphering rock lyrics is usually futile, so understand that I’m just giving you common English, not necessarily the meanings the lyricist had in mind…

She was lookin’ kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead

Make a fist with your right hand. Raise the index finger up and the thumb straight out. Touch your forehead with the webbing between thumb and forefinger. This is the sign for "loser" that some young people use to put down those not in their clique. Personally, I always thought it made the person using it look the most foolish, and I think that’s what they are saying also.

Fed to the rules and hit the ground runnin’

Fed to the rules I can’t help you with… Hit the ground running means get your butt in gear.  :) Example used in American business: every day the lions chase the gazelles across the Serengeti. Each gazelle knows it must run faster than the fastest lion, or it will get eaten. Each lion knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will go hungry. Either way, when the sun comes up, you’d better hit the ground running.

It’s a cool place and they say it gets colder

Two possibilities are:
1. "Cool" place you probably understand. Gets colder may refer to "getting left out in the cold"—that is, being left behind as the next cool thing takes your place.
2. In the myths of northern climates hell was cold, so this may also be a reference to life getting more difficult as you age. Maybe someone young(er) and cool(er) can clarify? smile

But the meteor men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture

The weather experts point to holes in the ozone, which would build off option 2 for cool/colder above, with the threat of the green house effect, followed by nuclear winter looming.

The ice we skate is gettin’ pretty thin
The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim

I’ve already explained thin ice. If the greenhouse effect occurs and you’re "out on thin ice" (either literally or metaphorically), you’re going to drown unless you can swim.

There are probably several layers of association for the band members in this song. Are there any American students or backpacking tourists in your area? They would be a good resource in this type of cultural study.

When you click the style buttons, you’ll need to enter the text between them [_b]"like this"[_/b]. I put the underscores in so you could how to script it to get "like this".

Thanks gailr and Katy.

I really appreciate your help.

Your kind explanation make me clarify much of it.

But, I am not still sure about the sentence " You’re bundled up now but wait till you get older."

Does that mean " You think you are in a safe place now. But, it is not actually safe." ??

As nobody has ever mentioned, I will be fool-hardy enough to speak up;
Shrek is apparently related to German "Schreck," terror or scariness.

Does Fiona mean anything symbolic?

FIONA feminine form of FION

FION "fair" or "white" (Irish).

FIONA   f
Usage: Scottish
Pronounced: fee-O-na
Feminine form of FIONN

FIONN   m
Usage: Irish, Irish Mythology
Pronounced: FIN, FYOON
Means "fair" or "white" in Gaelic. Fionn mac Cumhail was a legendary Irish hero who became all-wise by eating an enchanted salmon. He fought against the giant Fomors with his son Oisin and grandson Oscar.

Finally, Names in Japanese offers "Fiona" [see site for character options] = "White, shiro"

Although the derivation is different, her name always makes me think of Sinn Fein. Her sense of independence and identity fit with it, too.

Good research!  With all due respect to your trouble, though, I could not help laughing to see the site suggests that Fiona should be translated into Shiro.  As a literal translation it’s unblemished but naming practise is sometimes another world from the conventional usage of the language.

Shiro is a common name for an animal with white hide: usually for dogs but cats too.  I have never met a person bearing that name.  ;D  I know Princess Fiona had a lot to worry with her nightly transmogrification, although becoming a monster is just 3 cm better than becoming a dog…..

Flam,
who has decided that, nontheless, the site you have posted is a great source of etymologies for  Western onomasticon.

I chewed on that one for a while but am at a loss as to the meaning of the word onomasticon.
