I’m looking for a word that means "being able to put yourself in someone’s place" or someone else’s shoes and the word is not  "empathy"
thank you!!!

Well, since we already have l’esprit de l’escalier, why not l’esprit de la chaussure d’autrui?

Brazilian dude

P.S.  I was going to say empathy until I read you didn’t want that.

"empathy"

It’s a somewhat direct translation; I don’t know of a better english word that fits your meaning. If you mean psychologically. If you mean physically, I really don’t know the word. Putting yourself in someone’s place physically would be warlike and not at all empathetic.

Being physically in someone else’s place is either  patronage, liggery or burglary.

Ligger is a slang, perhaps solely in Britain, that means a self-invited guest to a party or a concert.  Liggery is the state noun, I suppose.

<blush> merci beaucoup!

I’d settle for pretty good English, and passable French. grin Although possibly the less said about my French the better.
