This usage of to hear really fascinates me.
"1. To be capable of perceiving sound. 2. To receive news or information; learn: I heard about your accident."

But not necessarily via audible impulses.

More or less the same goes for to see.
"4. To understand; comprehend: I see your point."

Is this possible in other languages too?

I’m just beginning to understand  ;)  how this works in Chinese, but, provisionally, there’s ting or tingjian, meaning that you perceive a sound, and dong or tingdedong, meaning that you hear and understand.

I don’t see very well how it works in Dutch. "Luister" and "hoor" can be used in a meaning which doesn’t have a lot to do with ears, but in a very limited way… I dunno… It is starting to puzzle me…
