I routinely ( wink )encounter regime in contexts in which it would seem all but certain that the user intends to communicate what regimen has to offer.

As I  read the definitions here at yourdictionary.com, the closest these two close words come together is with the noun definition of  regime that pertains to habitual behavior.

To me, the regime of the gorilla throughout her day is still quite different from the regimen of various runners, meditators, imporovers carrying forth in their course of discipline. Yet they continue to evoke Samosa when my mind’s eye is expecting Simmons.

How much latitude is there with regime ?

Thanks!

That seems a bit odd. Certainly they’re from the same root, but interchangeable? It doesn’t sound right at all to my ears, in any case.

The new régime has introduced a strenuous regimen of physical activity for all members of the air defence regiment.
