I was reading a fantasy story (about knights, dragons etc.) and came across this word: "sellsword"

I am curious what it might mean. I am not a native English speaker as you can understand and my dictionaries do not have it.

Can anyone help me?

???

Thx!!

A sellsword is clearly meant as a mercenary soldier of the mediaeval period, at least in the context of fantasy stories and, so I found on Google, a game of the same name.

However, it seems to be missing from all the dictionaries easily found through the yourDictionary site and so I suspect it has been made up recently. Maybe some other Agoran has some more complete knowledge of this word.

Anyway, nice to hear from you lost. Come again.

DerekB:

Language marches on.  I believe that DerekB is right.  I did a couple of searches and came of with Encyclopedias of imaginary mediaeval worlds.

Wecome, lost!
