how about Facetious or Persnickety

I use both these words and would be interested in knowing their history.

Thanks Katy.  I found the listing for facetious, but can’t locate one for persnickety.  Where can I look up the etmyology of that word?

My memory isn’t all that grand, but I suspect it may have been part of the long list of words that was "ephemerated".

I just remembered!

We definitely did discuss this before, because I remember Grant bringing up the fact that it originated with Scottish pernickity or some such—without the ‘s’—and is still used that way there.
