Yeah, sort of.  I can post ok but several recent posts are gone, perhaps forever.  Here at home things are in a striking parallel now that the town is recovering from the second typhoon (T-23 or Tokage) in October.  I have seen enough of felled trees, blackouts, landslides, detour roads as well as killer posts.

Now what’s next but for going better?

Flam, I’m so sorry your home has been battered by the storms, I hope all is ‘on the mend’ now.

Hi,

The Agora is indeed back.  It’s been restored from the backup I made after I fixed the Last Post: N/A by N/A problem - I’m not sure that anything between then and now is recoverable.  We’ve replaced the entire "disk subsystem" that was causing all of yourDictionary.com’s various problems over the last month, so knock on wood we should be OK.  Let me know if there are any problems.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience or problems this has caused any of you.

Again, for the technically-interested: the controller in our external disk box went south (we had a more complicated hardware setup than we really needed, and along with that comes more complexity and points of failure), so we were getting I/O errors on the drives that held the site.  We’ve replaced it with another server which is easier to manage.

Is there any fine print we need to read on this new deal…?  :P

Thanks for all the hard work, Andrew.  Although we all have real lives, many of us had come to see this place as a gathering place of friends, and it is always disturbing to see something like that being put through the proverbial wringer… but equally relieving and pleasing to see it restored!

Well, I’m so glad the Agora has been restored to its previous state! Thanks to all who run this site.

Notwithstanding, I am having some problems still. In the Grammar section, I posted successfully on my own thread "Dickens’s English". After some time, maybe a day or two, I returned and saw that two more posts had been added, last one by Flaminius. I entered the thread and, behold!, the last post there was by Brian and even mine didn’t appear.

I guess it’s got to do with the fact that a new page needs to be added, for it only reads "1,2,3" and the amount and length of the posts should already allow a fourth one. This  obviously doesn’t work. I don’t know whether any of you have encountered the same issue…

Regards,

          WS.

Hi WS, good to see ya again.

Another problem is that the Agora roster has only 15 people and you and I are not part of it.

Not a big deal to make a fuss about but just calling the attention of the Web Gods that reside the Agora.

Hmmm, Flam, you were not only listed as a member when I checked, but under "Top 15 Posters" you are listed first with a whopping (5) posts…  That is some pull with the Web Gods! :D

Katy,
You also mentioned in another thread that you have problems with loading web pages of Agora.  I am experiencing that as well.  But can it be caused by   busy traffic, heavy posts or alike?

Flam,
who is not a patch on you in the recovered list of top 15 posters.

but I’ll bet you work, eh?  my ‘work’ is at home, I build websites for my business, so I’m always on-line…

It seems to have taken another break, but it’s back again now by the looks of it. Unless I just killed it again.

Well, it’s not another complaint.  Just like to say "Akemash i t e omededoo go-dzaimasu" to every Agorarian, as I believe myself to be the first to embark upon this new 2005.  Shana Ttova.
