I’m looking for a source for definitions of word suffixes.  For example, if I want a suffix for ‘fear’, I could type in fear and suffixes like phobe or phobia would be found.  Is there an on-line dictionary of this type?

Thanks

I’m looking for a list of words which normally occurr only WITH suffixes or prefixes and the
original word has been lost. They all seem funny to me. Example:

gruntled (only occurs with prefix disgruntled)

Complex verbal form “disgruntled” n.b. possible back-formation “disgruntle” v. ex datis Etymonline.com sub eo would indeed seem to epitomize frequent use of Latin prefix dis in this undesirable sense of “being apart from the rest” and so just outright negative as semantically approximate de and dys throughout our expanded lexicon.  Perseus Digital Library Project online tenders one useful substring function to search classical vocabulary of Greek or Latin extraction in particular, you could also get multiple results for said very compatible phob inquiry, and TheFreeDictionary.com will orthographically reference such a characteristic “end” as well as “beginning” of likewise affected words to help with any troublesome suffix.

Douglang can’t post, and gets an error message, ala:
Unable to receive your submission at this time
(tho not in italics)

and it SEEMS to be related to a duplicate post testing, setting,so I’ve set that off
and I’ve logged in as him (sneaky admin trick) and am trying to see if this
post goes thru ok, pre or post test,or post haste.

Otherwise, please ignore this post.

Diane, masquarading (or is that incognito?) as douglang.

If you see this post, then things are going well, if ,on the other hand you do NOT
see this post, please report its absence, immediately, if not sooner.

Its 10 to 1 that its 9 to 5 or 6 to 4.

Is seeing two dopplegangers the same as seeing double double ?

is double double, a quad? (isn’t that the word used in (on?)university grounds for a large-ish portico or courtyard, also?
or is it a tetra?  as in the tetragrammaton, being a four letter word?
So it might be hex to tetra?

A double double is a burger from In n Out Burger… double meat. double cheese. grilled onions are optional. By the way, I’m feeling a little ashamed. Our esteemed Webster’s New World Dictionary doesn’t have doppelganger in it. Might need to start a thread of other words we’re missing that we “ought” to have to build up our own…

Have we strayed from the topic ?  Suffixes for “fear” are:-

-"full"
-"some"
-"less"
-"draped in onions”

Spot the interloper !
