Forgive me Linnet - for there are Scottish casualties also, not to mention many other nationalities.  I only had Australian numbers at hand and that is why I stressed that Australian news reports were the source of my information.

It wasn’t my intention to sound so parochial, my apologies.

Jimbo; there was no offence taken.  I was merely agreeing with you and confirming your statement that the bombing has shaken us in this part of the world.  Those who died are just as dead and those who survived just as injured and traumatised regardless of what nationality they are.

Damall?

A moderately opaque on-the-fly respelling of "damn-all" in order to sneak past the filter. Unfortunately it came out looking like some sort of supplier of mail-order thermal underwear. :(

Well, I figured from the context it was a non-American English version of "damn little"; now I know how to spell it correctly.  Reminds me of a get-well card I got for a friend years ago:

Next time you’re sick, try some of that new wonder drug --

 Damitol!

As for the filter, that’s one I wouldn’t bother trying to get around; just let the asterisks do their job.

Which, while we’re on the subject, reminds me of a very old joke:

Sister Mary Sweetspeak saw Johnnie running down the street yelling something.  She couldn’t make out exactly what he was saying except he kept repeating the word "Damn."  She called over to him to stop yelling and come over to her this instant.  As he did so, she told him he should not use that word, but use the word "Darn" instead.  "OK, Sister" he replied as he ran off, "but you’d better run for the hills ‘cause the darn has busted!"

Yeah, you’re right. As I typed I couldn’t remember if it just got asterisked, or if it got the full punctuation treatment so it would come out as an excessive $&%@-all.
(Note to tamisaac: don’t worry about quoting this one - I’ve actually typed those funny characters!)

I’ve just now come across this, Grant.  Thanks for the heads up!

I have to say the filter can really throw one off.  Fortunately I decided to preview an IM in which I had printed the word spirit with a t instead of the r.  The resulting "correction" would have introduced a completely inappropriate word.   raspberry

But that old Stargzer, with those words jumping out at me!!  I got another laugh out loud from the memory!   :D

I’m wondering if its server problems or a big censure I can never be forgiven, but I’m unable to access much of the Agora, most of the words I’ve been watching, not even making comment on are affected. There are no messagea explaining any big faux pas I may have committed.

ah, Brad wrote, under another thread that it was all deleted by mistake.

Do not adjust your monitor.  The fault is ours.  Somebody here at YDC (I will not snitch...) deleted all three Word of the Day forums in an effort to close the Top 10 of 2002 forum.  I’m pretty sure they’re unrecoverable, but I’ll see what I can do.

Alas.

I’m sorry I couldn’t see your ‘vanished’ postings.
