I wanted to alert you to the fact that we have accepted a new advertising contract that will create pop-unders when you leave our site.  I am not a big fan of these at all, but we need the revenue to keep us going.

I know they are annoying.  If they bother you I would recommend installing or using software that blocks such things.  I am a HUGE fan of AdSubtract.  I’ve been using it for years at home and can’t imagine the Internet without it.

I just wanted to let you folks know because you spend so much time at the site and will probably be some of the most affected.

We are still discussing plans for subscription services, etc. that would allow for ad-free options.  If we do anything like this, you’ll be the first(s) to know.

We are still discussing plans for subscription services

Salon.com started doing this about a year ago. They charge $35 for a year for the option of no commercials and some premium content. I think it works just fine. Why would anybody object to paying $3 a month (a dime a day) to keep this site going and avoid intrusive ads? Probably a better long-term solution than contracting with a popup vendor and then recommending users to employ an anti-popup device.  ;D

On a much lighter note, you might consider the option of allowing product placement in discussion threads. Katy could wax lyrical on the merits of Coke Lite while Tim and Henri have a deep discussion as to the relative merits of the Lincoln Navigator. I’m sure I could post for days on end about Twinkies or Guinness. Such an innovative approach could rapidly turn this wonderful site into a cash cow of moving proportions.  ;D

lol, PW, I appreciate your confidence in me.  but I’d find it hard to ‘wax lyrical ‘ about something so icky.

Another good reason for continuing to use my Opera browser - it has a built-in pop-up-and-under-stopper.

I’m not a great crossword fan, anyway!
