  1. The high end of a wage bracket. For example, a school system may have a wage bracket of $35,000 to $45,000 for new teachers, depending on a person's discipline, education, and experience. In this school system, the wage ceiling for new teachers is $45,000.
  2. The maximum amount of wages used to calculate some variable such as pension or Social Security contributions.
