unique selling proposition

A marketing strategy of differentiating a product or service by concentrating on unique features that are not offered by competitors. For example, Procter & Gamble introduced Crest in 1955 as the first fluoride toothpaste to be proven effective in preventing cavities and tooth decay. The company promoted an endorsement for Crest by the American Dental Association.
