small claims division

A division of the Federal Tax Court that hears cases involving disputed tax liabilities of $50,000 per year or less. A taxpayer can present his or her case and evidence alone or accompanied by a CPA, attorney, or enrolled agent. A loss by a taxpayer in small claims division cannot be appealed.
