regulatory climate definition - business
regulatory climate
The term applied to the latitude with which a regulated firm or industry is permitted to pursue an adequate return on its stockholders' investments. This term is often used in reference to utilities, which are required to obtain approval for rate changes. A favorable regulatory climate generally causes investors to value a company more highly, because they expect its earnings to be greater. Regulatory climate is also likely to have a strong influence on where a company locates its operations.
