oversell

  1. To promise more than can be delivered. For example, a salesperson in an appliance store may oversell the performance of a plasma television in an effort to earn a large sales commission.
  2. To continue promoting a good or service after the initial sale has been consummated. Overselling may turn off an impatient buyer.
