net
- The difference between net proceeds from the sale of an asset and the total outlay for the purchase.
- The amount that remains after all relevant deductions have been taken. For example, the balance sheet item “net plant and equipment" is the dollar amount of plant and equipment after deducting accumulated depreciation.
- The difference between a series of additions and a series of subtractions. For example, a car rental agency has a net of 15 vehicles available for rent after considering returns and previous rentals for the day.
