National Mediation Board definition - business
National Mediation Board
An independent agency that attempts to resolve labor-management disputes in the railroad and airline industries. The board provides mediation services for major disputes and, in rare instances when mediation has failed and transportation services are subject to disruption, may inform the President of the United States. The President, at his discretion, may create a presidential emergency board to delay a work stoppage or lockout for up to 60 days.
