mall

A collection of retail establishments, generally under one roof. Large malls are organized with retail shops surrounding a common pedestrian area, with the shops, in turn, surrounded by a large parking area. Strip malls are characterized by a row of adjacent stores and restaurants that border a common parking lot. Also called shopping center. See also outlet mall.
