International Securities Exchange (ISE) definition - business

International Securities Exchange (ISE)

An SEC-registered securities exchange that commenced operation in 2000 for electronic trading of options. The exchange has ten designated trading areas, each staffed by market makers who make orderly markets, including firm bid and ask prices for designated options. The ISE was funded by a consortium of broker-dealers and is based in New York City. The exchange issued shares to the public in a 2005 IPO.
