insurance agent

A representative of one or more insurance companies who sells the firms' products. An independent agent represents several insurance companies, while a captive agent offers insurance products from a single company. State Farm agents are examples of captive agents. Both independent and captive agents increasingly offer financial planning services and sell an assortment of financial products, including mutual funds and annuities.
