gap analysis definition - business

gap analysis

An assessment of where an organization needs to be compared to where it actually is. For example, a household products company might use gap analysis to evaluate its market penetration for a particular product. Gap analysis is used to initiate policy changes that will close any gap that is identified. The household products company might decide to change its marketing mix in order to improve market penetration.
