futures market

A market in which futures contracts are bought and sold. The various organized futures exchanges specialize in certain types of contracts. For example, the Chicago Board of Trade trades futures contracts on agricultural products, U.S. Treasury securities, gold and silver, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The New York Mercantile Exchange handles futures contracts in energy and metals.
