  1. Refinancing a debt.
  2. Placing money or other assets into an account that is to serve as a source of future benefits. For example, a company may devote a substantial portion of its current revenue to funding its employee retirement program.
  3. Allocating money to an endeavor. For example, a petroleum company may budget $300 million toward funding the development of a new oil field.
