Family and Medical Leave Act
Federal legislation that required covered employers to grant an eligible employee up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave for any of the following reasons: birth and care of a newborn child of the employee, placement of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care, care of a family member with a serious illness, or medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health problem.
