direct response advertising

A marketing effort to a target group that encourages members of the group to respond directly to the advertiser. For example, a company may offer classic rock CDs to viewers of a late-night 1950s television show. The offer will be accompanied by a toll-free telephone number for viewers who decide to order the music.
