differentiated oligopoly
An industry in which production of a similar but not identical product is concentrated in a few firms. Firms operating in a differentiated oligopoly attempt to differentiate their products in order to be able to charge consumers a higher price. Cigarette manufacturing is an example of a differentiated oligopoly. Compare homogeneous oligopoly.
