  1. Payment as part of an obligation.
  2. Funds placed in an account at a financial institution.
  3. Money offered as a guarantee. For example, a new homeowner may be required to provide a deposit with the electric company before service is turned on.
  4. Accumulation of a mineral. For example, a mining company may discover a deposit of gold.
