continuation coverage

Temporary continuation of health insurance benefits on a voluntary basis when plan coverage would ordinarily terminate. For example, a terminated employee might wish to temporarily continue benefits until he or she has found a new job. An employee who chooses continuation coverage must normally pay the full premium.
