Consumer Credit Protection Act of 1968

Federal legislation designed to protect individual borrowers with respect to garnishment of wages and availability of information relative to loans. One section of the act limits the amount of earnings that may be garnished and prohibits dismissing an employee because of garnishment of any one debt. Another section requires that creditors make certain written disclosures concerning finance charges and related aspects of credit transactions. Also called Truth in Lending Act.
