American Stock Exchange (AMEX, ASE)

A large floor- and electronic-based securities exchange in New York City that provides facilities for trading stocks, bonds, index shares, and equity derivative securities. The AMEX, a leader in introducing new investment products such as exchange-traded funds, was acquired in 2008 by NYSE Euronext. See also Curb Exchange.
