boom boxboom box
boom box - Computer Definition
A self-contained stereo system for playing music that comes in myriad sizes and shapes. A boom box contains an amplifier, speakers, a CD drive and/or a tape cassette player. Along with standard CD music tracks, it may also play MP3 and other compressed audio formats either on an optical disc or memory card. A huge number of units have an Apple dock and play the music in an iPod or iPhone. The equivalent of the "portable record player" of the 1960s, boom boxes are either small, battery-operated portables or large, transportable units that require AC power. Battery-driven boxes typically have an AC power option. See CD player.
