The definition of an automated medical record, otherwise known as an electronic medical record, is a set of health information about a person that is stored on a computer versus in a filing cabinet. Automated medical record systems provide the health care industry with more efficient and private storage of medical records. Although patients might be initially concerned about their privacy when their records are available by computer, the security designs of these systems make them as safe, or in some cases, safer than paper-based medical files.
