anthropogenesis[an′t̸hrə pō′jen′ə sis]
- The origin of man.
May be used both in mythological contexts (myths of the origin of the first human beings) and in scientific context. Scientific use may pertain either to paleoanthropology (human evolution) or to the development of the human fetus.
anthropo- + -genesis, attested in English 1862, replacing or used alongside earlier anthropogeny; earlier use in German Anthropogenesis and French anthropogénésie (alongside anthropogénie), from the 1820s.
